UTM Teaching Champion Program

 UTM Teaching champion program (UTM TorCh) is a training program to develop teaching and learning champion. It covers 4 modules which have been developed to build inspiring educators at UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MALAYSIA.

MODULE 2 ( Professional Development )

 

TEACHING PORTFOLIO

Course

Period

  • Philosophy of Teaching & Learning (T&L): Writing clear statement of philosophy with beliefs and values; Learning theories/models underlying the philosophy of T&L; teaching practices, goals, methods and strategies.

  • Teaching/Supervision and Assessment Methods: Writing clear and detail explanation (including evidence) on the strategies used for Teaching/Supervision and Assessment.

  • Creativity & Innovation in teaching/supervision and assessment: Writing clear statement and description of creativity and innovation in T&L supporting and aligned with T&L philosophy and methods; providing clear analysis and evidence on the impact of of innovation on the quality of T&L.

  • Evaluation and testimony of teaching/supervision: Providing clear evidence of effective teaching/supervision from various levels

  • Improvement in teaching/supervision and assessment: Providing documents on self-reflection of teaching development and relating it to CQI of teaching strategies; analysis/synthesis for improvement; action and sharing; professional development in teaching/supervision and assessment.

  • Scholarship of teaching/supervision and assessment: Sharing of knowledge and practices in teaching/supervision and assessment at various levels; recognition; leading academic community related to.

TEACHING RECOGNITION

Period

  • Participants have to participate ina 1-day workshop on ‘Strategies for Successful Applications’

  • Participants have to attend 2 sharing sessions on national and international T&L awards & competitions.

  • Participants will be given 2 weeks to submit trial applications while being coached by a mentor.

MICRO TEACHING

Course

Period

  • Participants have to demonstrate their skills in teaching through a micro-teaching session evaluated by panel. For the micro teaching session:

  • A lesson plan has to be prepared for at least two (2) hour teaching session online oroffline (Face-to-Face).

  • Teaching session has to cover at least 2 learning outcomes.

  • Teaching session has to cover delivery and assessment.

  • Reflection will be given by the coach and if deem necessary, another micro teaching session will be scheduled based on the coach’s evaluation.
